I live in Johannesburg with my husband and our three amazing children. I love writing and designing anything that comes to mind on canvas. I am passionate about personal growth and development. If I am not reading a book, I am listening to podcasts that can help improve any area of my life.
I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the University of Pretoria and a Postgraduate Diploma in Data Science from Stellenbosch University. In 2019, I switched careers from mining to financial services with no experience but God and the courage to step out of the comfort zone. I was sure I wanted to be in the mining sector when I studied Geology, but with time I felt my passion was no longer in that space, and it caused me a lot of unhappiness. After years of battling with myself, I finally decided to listen to the little voice within.
What this journey taught me is that everything we desire in life starts with self. I had a lot of work to do on myself in order to get the most out of the opportunity. What I did not know is how, a few years later, what I thought I was doing to get a job would become habits that helped me change every other area of my life. I am more courageous now than I was, and I have learnt to put my personal dreams and goals before any job requirement.
Now that I am on the other side, having left a profession I studied so hard for and ventured into one that was not familiar to me, it has proven to me that the human spirit is resilient. There is nothing we cannot learn and master. All we have to do is allow ourselves to begin again.
What if the promotion is actually yours to ask for? What if the business works? What if you are not too late?
Most women never find out, because the fear of the wrong answer is louder than the question. I made the switch myself, from geology to data science, and the fear didn't go anywhere. I just stopped letting it decide.
