Take Care Of What You Have.
We hear so much about taking the time to enjoy your achievements before you start pursuing the next one. It simply means stopping to celebrate ourselves and reflecting on how far we have come. When we finally get to drive that car we wanted, live in that beautiful house, own the latest iPhone, or buy that Louis Vuitton bag, we should definitely stop and pat ourselves on the back for working so hard to achieve that.
Another aspect that we rarely talk about is showing gratitude for what you have achieved by taking care of them. This can be in the form of the relationships you have and the possessions you own. When we first buy a new car, we commit to keeping it clean and getting it washed twice a week. We are also careful about how we drive it, where we take it, and who we allow to drive it if we are unable to.
Three months down the line, we start doing to this new phone, car or house what we did to the last one. We go for weeks without washing our car, we stay in a house for years without doing any maintenance on it. Instead of dealing with the issue, which is a failure on our side to take good care of the things and people God blesses us with, we go on to get a new car, new sneakers etc..
People give different reasons to excuse why they do not take care of their possessions. We can’t keep our car clean because we do not have time but we have two hours to scroll through social media. The real problem isn’t that we’re too tired, too busy, or too anxious; the real reason is that we aren’t prioritizing gratitude. Showing gratitude isn't only about writing it down but also in how we treat the people and the things we have in our lives. How you care for your belongings is a reflection of your feelings towards them.t.
Here are few ways you can show gratitude for who and what you have in your life: :
1.Put things away immediately after using them.
2.Use a 20 minutes timer to sort your bedroom before you sleep so you wake up in a more organized space.
3. Schedule days in your calendar to do certain things. e.g Saturday first thing in the morning, I take my car to the car wash so I have a clean car when the new week starts.
4. Every two weeks I get a new haircut, new set of nails. In that way you show your body you appreciate it.
5. Spend 5 minutes after parking your car to throw away papers, empty water bottles so dirt doesn't pile up.
6. Spend 30 minutes on Thursday night to sort out your wardrobe.
7. Twice a year, get a cleaning company to deep clean your house, wash windows to leave it smelling fresh and clean.
8. Schedule lunch dates with friends or time to call and check up on a distant relative.
9.Put your phone away to be more present when you are with your family. Ask them about their day and genuiely show interest.
The nice thing is organizational skills can be learnt. It can be overwhelming to implement all these things at once,so choose one and commit to it for the next 30 days. Start by taking care of the space or thing you spend most of your time using.
