What Will Be Different This Year?

As the calendar flips to a new year, many of us find ourselves reflecting on the past and setting intentions for the future. We make resolutions, set goals, and promise ourselves that *this year* will be different. But let’s be honest—how often do we end up in the same place, repeating the same patterns, and wondering why nothing has changed?

In this blog, I want us to be intentional about the outcome we desire for ourselves this year. What will we do differently so this year doesn't end like the other ones.

We all understand that different outcomes come from different inputs. Just like how the same basic ingredients—flour, eggs, and others—can be used to make everything from cakes to flapjacks, the process may appear similar, but subtle differences make all the difference in the end result. Similarly, in life, we need to make adjustments and shift things around to achieve different results.

The truth is, if we approach our goals the same way we did last year (or the year before that), we’re likely to get the same results. This year, let’s break the cycle. Let’s make a commitment to doing things differently. Here’s how

1.Start with Clarity, Not Just Goals: We often set vague goals like “get healthier,” “be more productive,” or “save more money.” But without clarity, these goals remain abstract and hard to achieve. This year, get specific. Ask yourself:

  • What does “healthier” look like for me? Is it running a 5K, eating more vegetables, or getting 8 hours of sleep? -
  • What does “productive” mean? Is it finishing a project, learning a new skill, or managing my time better?
  • How much money do I want to save, and for what purpose?

Clarity gives you direction. It turns a fuzzy idea into a actionable plan.

  • 2.Focus on Systems, Not Just Outcomes: Goals are important, but they’re only half the battle. The real magic lies in the systems you create to achieve them. If your goal is to write a book, your system might be writing 500 words every morning. If your goal is to lose weight, your system might be meal prepping every Sunday.
This year, shift your focus from the end result to the daily habits and routines that will get you there. Remember: small, consistent actions compound over time.

    Clarity breeds mastery.

3.Embrace Discomfort:  Growth doesn’t happen in your comfort zone. If you want different results, you’ll need to do things that feel uncomfortable. Maybe it’s waking up an hour earlier, saying no to distractions, or asking for help when you need it. Discomfort is a sign that you’re stretching yourself—and that’s where the magic happens.

4.Surround Yourself with the Right People:  Similar to how different plants thrive in specific environments, the extent of your growth is influenced by the surroundings you’re in.The people you spend time with have a huge impact on your mindset and habits. If you want to make changes this year, surround yourself with people who inspire and challenge you. Seek out mentors, join communities, and don’t be afraid to distance yourself from negativity or toxic influences.

What Will *You* Do Differently This Year? This year, don’t just hope for change—create it. Take a hard look at what hasn’t worked in the past, and commit to trying something new. Whether it’s a shift in mindset, a new habit, or a bold leap into the unknown, the power to make this year different lies in your hands.
